Haul in the Catch Haul in the Catch
Code: sb1   Media: Oil
Artist: J Gilbert   Nationality: British

Original oil on board by Joseph Francis Gilbert, b1792. Exhibited at The Royal Academy, The British Institute, The society for British Artists, and The Royal Manchester institution. He primarily painted the scenery of Sussex, although occasionally he worked in other areas such as Wales and the Lake District. A superb depiction of a fishing fleet as it pulls in the nets, the early mourning mist still hangs in the air though good weather and a heavy catch forcast. The romantic ideal of the simple life of the fisherman that appealed to art collectors of the day. The painting is presented in a stunning of the period giltwood frame, most likly original, and is painted on Oak panel. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. Framed size 43cm x 31cm, without 28cm x 17cm. Selling on behalf of client.

The Fishing Fleet Embark The Fishing Fleet Embark
Code: sb2   Media: Oil
Artist: J Gilbert   Nationality: British

Original oil on board by Joseph Francis Gilbert, b1792. Exhib, The Royal Academy, The British Institute, The society for British Artists, and The Royal Manchester institution. He primarily painted the scenery of Sussex, although occasionally he worked in other areas such as Wales and the Lake District. A Bright and crisp depiction of a fishing fleet as it prepares to leave the shore, I assume the boats are heading out to sea as there is no sign of the days catch. Although Women of the day did accompany the men on the boat it is most likley that the Women portrayed are there to see the Men off, as Women at sea did not fit into the romantic appeal that Gilberts patrons yearned for. The painting is presented in a stunning of the period giltwood frame, most likly original, and is painted on Oak panel. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. Framed 43cm x 31cm, without 28cm x 17cm. Selling on behalf of client.
